Getting Geared Up with the Right Scuba Diving
Christopher Wen
Defined Tag: Scuba Diving Gear.
Scuba diving is an excellent way to see parts of the ocean that human beings are incapable otherwise. SCUBA is an acronym for Self-Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus. Scuba divers place a tanks of compressed air on their backs. It became very mainstream after World War II as a recreational water activity. It engages all of the senses and allows divers to see underwater life in its own realm up close and personal.
First, divers must join a diving club or engage in lessons in order to be properly trained in the art of diving. Proper diving gear is key to a completely fun-filled experience for any diver. The most common items needed for diving are: whistle, compass, alternative air reserve (extra mouthpiece), submersible pressure gauge (SPG), exposure/wet suit, cylinder, regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), snorkel, mask, and fins with diving boots for comfort. These items can vary depending on the area in which the diving will occur. Accommodations can be made for the particular interest or desire of the diver.
A good rule to go by is to always have extra diving gear on hand. An O Ring kit can be a lifesaver for tank valves, regulators, and hoses if they come loose or break. A safety flashlight with a strobe can enhance night diving and can signal when a diver might be in trouble. A diving knife can come in handy if the diver gets caught in something they cannot break out of on their own. Diving gloves also help to protect hands against rocks, coral reef, and any sharp object (heaven forbid sharks' teeth). A dive camera will help to capture the beautiful ocean and sea life that is encountered along the way. Underwater time pieces and watches are now available for anyone who needs to be time conscious or wants to keep track of how long they've been in the water.
